The award is presented each year by the South Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals (SDASSP).
Dr. Uttermark is in his 21st year as Central High School’s principal. The prestigious honor recognizes his exceptional leadership, commitment to student achievement and lasting impact on the school community.
Dr. Uttermark’s award was announced Tuesday by Superintendent Dr. Becky Guffin at the Aberdeen Public School District’s fall 2026 in-service event at CHS.

It was game on Friday at the CHS Esports Day Camp! 🎮 The camp was open to any students interested in joining Central’s Esports Team or learning more about the program. The Esports Lab at ATEC Academy was full of kids—including a group from the Boys & Girls Club—who were having fun playing chess, Marvel Rivals, Mario Kart, and more! #GoEagles #AberdeenPublicSchools 💙🦅💛
Congratulations to CHS student Russell Walberg, who shot USA Archery Team Trials and made the Under 21 Men’s Compound Open United States Archery Team (USAT) for next year! 🏹
Russell also shot the International Field Archery Association World Championships and set the new World record Field Round Score, shooting a 556 out 560, breaking the old record by 15 points and winning the World Championship! 🏆

On Friday, Aug. 21, children who attended Golden Eagles summer soccer camps will get FREE ADMISSION to the Aberdeen Central Boys and Girls Soccer home opener! ⚽
All they have to do is wear their camp T-shirts to the games:
Pink shirts for kids who attended the girls’ Little Eagles Camp.
Gray shirts for kids who attended the boys’ Developing Champions Camp.
Game times on Aug. 21 are as follows:
Girls varsity at 4 p.m. (JV at 6)
Boys varsity at 6 p.m. (JV at 4)
Varsity will play on Golden Eagle Field, and junior varsity will play on the grass field at the Gene Brownell Complex.
