Ready for Kindergarten

Are you wondering if your child is ready for kindergarten? Our kindergarten teachers say that children should, in general, be able to:

  •  Follow simple, two-step directions.

  • Accept consequences.

  • Listen without interrupting.

  • Get along with others.

  • Use words to express feelings.

  • Use the bathroom without help.

  • Put on shoes, zip coat, fasten buttons.

  • Be able to use crayons, pencils, scissors.

  • Wait for attention.

  • Sit and listen to a story for 10 minutes.

  • Be able to recognize and write their first name.

What can parents do to help?

Make sure your child is well-rested and well-nourished, and read to them every day!
