The Dave ’61 and Mary Ann Shaw Track and Cross Country Scholarship has been awarded to CHS students and alumni annually since 2017.  Shaw was a track and cross country runner at Aberdeen Central and Northern State University.  A dedicated runner, he continues to follow his grandchildren’s success on the track as well as the Golden Eagles teams.

In May of 2021, the Shaws decided to create a vehicle to provide funding for their scholarship for years to come and established the Shaw Track and Cross Country Scholarship Restricted Fund.  The Dave and Mary Ann Shaw Track and Cross Country Scholarship recognizes hard working individuals with character and values; individuals that encourage their teammates, and have an exceptional work ethic.  Middle or long distance runners are given preference.

 “The track and cross country scholarship was established because of my love for running which all began at Aberdeen Central.  Running has been a big part of my entire life, has brought me much joy and happiness, and taught me a lot about life.  Our scholarship is intended to help high school students continue their involvement in running.  It is a way for us to give back,” said Dave Shaw.

As of December 31, 2023, the Dave and Mary Ann Shaw Track and Cross Country Scholarship Fund balance is over $11,813.
