Students rehearsing at CHS Show Choir Camp

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On the first day of summer vacation, almost 200 kids were back at school—not for classes, but for Show Choir Camp.

The annual camp, open to grades 4-8, is taking place this week at Central High School, with approximately 170 students participating. Campers will end the week by putting on an open-to-the public performance at 11 a.m. Friday at CHS.

For Aberdeen Public Schools, Show Choir Camp is just one example of how the district continues to be busy, even during the summer.

Additional activities and events going on around the district during the summertime include multiple youth athletic camps hosted by Golden Eagle sports teams. They include:

·         Little Eagles Basketball and Volleyball Camp, hosted by the CHS Girls Volleyball and Basketball teams. The camp, open to grades K-6, is taking place June 1-2 from 4-6 p.m. at Central’s Golden Eagle Arena.

·         Sanford Summer Sports Performance programs begin June 1 (grades 7-12) and June 2 (grade 6) at Central High School.

·         Cross Country Camp, hosted by CHS Cross Country, will take place June 8-10 for grades 5-12 at Wylie Park Pavilion.

·         The Girls Basketball Team is also hosting Golden Eagles Flight League for incoming fifth- through eighth-grade girls. The league, also held in Golden Eagle Arena, begins June 11 and ends July 23.

·         The Girls Soccer Team is hosting Little Eagles Soccer Camp July 21-23, with sessions for ages 4-7 and ages 8-12, at Brownell Field.

·         The Boys Basketball Team is holding a league as well, beginning June 2 and running through July 30, with a session for grades 3-6 and one for grades 7-8.

·         Developing Champions Eagles Soccer Camp, hosted by CHS Boys Soccer, will take place July 27-29 at Brownell Field. The team is also holding a pre-season camp for grades 6-12 July 20-23 and July 27-30.

·         Beginning Band Boot Camp takes place Aug. 3-7 in the Holgate Middle School Band Room and is open to all incoming sixth grade band students.
