ABERDEEN, S.D. – Simmons Elementary Principal Kim Aman has been named the 2026 South Dakota Elementary Principal of the Year by the South Dakota Association of Elementary School Principals (SDAESP).
Aman, who has led Simmons Elementary since 2013, earned this recognition for her exceptional leadership, commitment to high expectations, and focus on student success.
Under her guidance, the school has strengthened systems of support for students, particularly those with behavioral and social-emotional needs, while fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment grounded in a “Kids First” philosophy.
Aman’s leadership is marked by a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous improvement. With 13 years of experience as a principal and active involvement in the South Dakota Elementary Principals Association, she demonstrates a deep commitment to educational leadership and professional growth.
“Mrs. Aman has created a purposeful school climate that prioritizes both academic achievement and social development, ensuring all students are supported,” said Dr. Becky Guffin, Superintendent of Aberdeen Public Schools. “She also values strong family and community partnerships. Through collaboration with the PTA and school events that increase family engagement, she has strengthened connections between the school and the broader community. Her focus on communication and relationships ensures families feel welcomed, informed, and connected to the school.”
Aman will be honored at the upcoming SDAESP Annual Principals Conference for her outstanding leadership and contributions to education.
