O.M. Tiffany students holding valentines they made for nursing home residents

ABERDEEN, S.D. – O.M. Tiffany Elementary students are brightening Valentine’s Day for local nursing home residents this year.

Thanks to a fundraiser by the O.M. Tiffany Student Council, all residents of Prairie Heights Healthcare Nursing Home will receive a balloon bouquet from Aberdeen’s Beyond the Balloon.

The Student Council sold Valentine treats at school to raise funds for the bouquets. Third graders in Mrs. Jessica Norman’s class also teamed up with their first grade “buddies” from Mrs. Christen Salfrank’s class to create valentines for each resident to receive along with the balloon bouquets.

This is the second year O.M. Tiffany has done the fundraiser, said Mrs. Norman, Student Council advisor.

Students said they are glad to be helping others this Valentine’s Day.

“It feels good that we’re helping other people,” said Destiny Arnott, a fourth-grade Student Council member.

“It makes me feel happy and positive,” said Menelas Brockel, a third grader at O.M. Tiffany.

“It makes me happy, and it makes other people really happy because some people don’t really have that much family that come and visit them at the nursing home,” said third grader Brexxlyn Figgins.

Beyond the Balloon will deliver the valentines and balloon bouquets to Prairie Heights Healthcare nursing home residents this week.
