Esten Foss and his family and supporters

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Aberdeen Central High School senior Esten Foss has received a principal nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

U.S. Senator Mike Rounds made the announcement last week at a surprise assembly for Foss at CHS. Students, family and school officials attended to celebrate his accomplishment.

Esten Foss, the son of Kevin and Kerri Foss of Aberdeen, is captain of the CHS cross country and wrestling teams and participates in track and field. He is a member of the National Honor Society, currently holds a 3.96 GPA, volunteers at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and planned a car wash fundraiser that raised $4,000 for Aberdeen area veterans.

“Congratulations to Esten on receiving a principal nomination to the U.S. Military Academy,” Rounds (R-S.D.) said in a news release. “Esten is committed to serving our country in the United States Army after receiving a top-notch education at West Point. He’s worked hard to get to this point, and we know he will excel at the Military Academy. I wish Esten all the best as he finishes out his senior year and continues to prepare for the next four years.”

“I am extremely honored to represent my school, state, and country at the U.S. Military Academy, and I look forward to upholding their motto of Duty, Honor, and Country for the next four years and beyond,” said Foss in the news release. “This has been a dream and a primary goal of mine since middle school, and the entire process has taught me about myself and the importance of leadership and integrity. I would like to thank my friends, family, teachers, and all those who helped and supported me throughout this application and my time in high school. Go Army!"
