ABERDEEN, S.D. – Simmons Middle School seventh grader Isabella Carlson has won a National PTA Reflections Award.
Carlson’s artwork, titled "Shattered Sculpture,” received an Award of Excellence in the annual awards program. As an Award of Excellence winner, Carlson will receive:
• A $200 Young Artist Scholarship
• A silver medallion
• An Award of Excellence certificate
Carlson is one of approximately 200 winners selected from over 850 submissions received from 40 states across the U.S. this year.
Carlson shared her artist statement for her winning artwork:
“This drawing is based off of a sculpture, but the meaning is to a person. Although it may look cracked and shattered deep within there is always a place to grow and start new wanting desires. Although people may not all be the same everyone has a place to break open and grow new beginnings. Like the drawing, not everyone is perfect. In fact, no one is. Everyone has a plant and when you learn to accept your inner self, never let anyone or anything ever ever push you down. Live Love Life.”
