Happy Karen Day! 1/11/24 The Karen New Year, is one of the major holidays celebrated by the Karen people. Karen, pronounced Kah- Ren (emphasis on the second syllable), are indigenous to the Thailand-Burma border region in Southeast Asia and are one of the many ethnic groups from Burma.

The guest speaker for the January SMS International Club meeting was Randal Madrigal from Costa Rica. Costa Rica is in Central America and has coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific., and is known for its rainforests and volcanos. Randal lives in Aberdeen with his wife and teaches yoga at the YMCA. He has lived in Costa Rica, New York, Philadelphia and Miami. Randal speaks Spanish and English. The International Club meets once a month, and all students are invited to attend!

After learning about the parts of the brain, 7th grade Medical Detective students designed, built, and tested helmet prototypes with hard-boiled eggs as their test subjects. Almost all the subjects survived testing!
