ABERDEEN, S.D. – A recent remodeling project has brought a piece of the world to O.M. Tiffany Elementary—the school’s library now features lighting that’s repurposed from recycled globes.
Nine globes have been transformed into light fixtures that hang from the library’s ceiling.
The lights were created by Aberdeen Public Schools Director of Operations Ben Schnell, who said he wanted to do something with this project that would set the room apart from other library spaces. The inspiration came from a photo his wife sent him from Pinterest.
“I cut the globes, drilled the holes and mounted the electrical fixtures into them,” Schnell explained.
The globe lights are meant to be something for kids at O.M. Tiffany to look at and enjoy while reading a book.
Next on the renovation list is Simmons Elementary—and Schnell said he’s already looking for something to repurpose there.
