Mikayla (Barondeau) Arechigo has been named the head girls basketball coach for the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles. She will assume her duties at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year.
Arechigo is currently the media center director and head freshmen girls basketball coach at Central High School. She has been on staff for the past six years and was part of the 2016 and 2018 State AA girl’s basketball championships. During her tenure, Golden Eagles also picked up three Eastern South Dakota Conference titles.
Her athletic career began with the Fredrick Area schools where she starred in cross-country, basketball, volleyball and track. Arcehigo was a four-time state champion in track with the Titans. Her parents, Randy and Janelle, administered, taught and coached with the Frederick Area schools for decades.er aprents
Her next stop was with the Northern State University Wolves where she accumulated twelve varsity letters in basketball, cross-county and track. She was a 1000 point scorer for Coach Curt Fredrickson’s program and holds NSU records for single-game free-throw percent and rebounds in a single game at 22. She also holds the NSU school record in the steeplechase. In addition, Arcechigo was a three-time NCAA Academic All-American.
Arechigo began her professional career with the Ipswich where she was an assistant coach in basketball and track and field. She was part of two Class B state track and field championships with the Tigers.
Arechigo and her husband, Jake, have a daughter, Rhea.
