Holgate’s staff would like to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! We are located at 2200 N. Dakota Street. Holgate opened in 1972 as Holgate Junior High. Our school is named after C. H. Holgate, Superintendent of Schools from 1951 to 1970. The design of our school was an open classroom plan that was becoming popular in the early seventies. Most of our classrooms didn’t have doors or walls and there were very few windows in the building. We have since enclosed most classrooms and installed doors and windows. After forty years our school remains a very attractive building.
In the fall of 2001, Holgate made the transition from a Junior High School with grades 7–9 to a Middle School with grades 6-8. We are proud to deliver a comprehensive middle school curriculum that is consistent withcontemporary middle level developmental research and practices. This year our enrollment will be over 500 students.
Holgate offers a core curriculum of math, science, language arts, social studies, reading and physical education and health that is complimented by an exploratory offering of industrial technology, art, family and consumer science, computer and foreign language. Our music program allows students to be involved in band, orchestra and vocal music. Sixth graders may participate in tennis, golf, wrestling, cross country, and gymnastics. Seventh and eighth grade students are encouraged to become involved in our athletic programs of golf, tennis, wrestling, basketball, football, track, cross country, volleyball, and cheer/dance. We also encourage students to become involved in our various non-athletic organizations, which include Student Senate, Holgate Harmony Show Choir, Jazz Band, All School Play, Reality Improv Troupe, S.O.S. (Serving Others and Self), Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, MathCounts, Destination Imagination, National History Day, and WEB (Welcome EveryBody).
