The first He Sapa Health Career Camp was held last Summer in Rapid City, SD. This camp is specifically for Native American students who are interested in possibly pursuing a future career in healthcare. The camp is similar to the camp held at USD but introduces the students to Native American Healthcare Professionals working in the Rapid City area. We tour Indian Health Services, Rapid City Regional Hospital and Western Dakota Technical School. There is no cost for the students to attend the camp and round trip transportation if provided. For more information contact Kathy Van Kley at Kathy.Vankley@usd.edu.
INMED Summer Institute Program: American Indian students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to participate in the INMED Summer Institute Program (SI), a six-week academic enrichment session for students who are interested in exploring careers and fields of study in health care. SI provides students an opportunity to enhance their potential for success in a health career through daily classes in biology, chemistry, communications/study skills, health with basic first aid, math and physics.
